US President Donald Trump has issued a new call for peace to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a press conference in the White House’s Oval Office.

"I have a message for both parties. Get this war ended. We're losing 5,000 soldiers a week, Russian and Ukrainian soldiers, and other people, also, by the way. And I say, get this stupid war finished. That's my message for both of them," said US President Donald Trump.

Russia's new 'ceasefire'

The US has repeatedly urged both Ukraine and Russia to declare a lasting ceasefire for at least 30 days.

This initiative was first proposed in March during negotiations between delegations from various countries in Saudi Arabia. Ukraine immediately agreed to the new arrangement, but Russian President Vladimir Putin made several demands, including a suspension of mobilization in Ukraine's Armed Forces and halting the supply of weapons to Kyiv from Western partners.

Subsequently, Moscow began declaring its own ceasefires.

Initially, the Kremlin announced an Easter ceasefire from April 19 to 21. However, Russian forces almost immediately violated it.

The second ceasefire was declared by Putin from May 9 to 11. However, this truce has also not been observed - active fighting continues on the front lines, and Russian forces shelled the Sumy region around 200 times.

According to the US Embassy in Ukraine, a serious airstrike is likely soon.

The US and the EU have proposed a new 30-day ceasefire and warned Russia of severe sanctions in case of refusal.

The Kremlin has agreed to the 30-day ceasefire but with certain conditions.
