US President Donald Trump is dissatisfied with the demands of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Europe for ending the war. He wants peace on any terms, The Atlantic reports.

Unnamed senior and former officials told the outlet that in recent days, Trump has privately expressed frustration that his high-profile diplomatic efforts have not yielded results.

At the same time, it remains unclear what a peace agreement might look like if it is reached. The US has not provided clear commitments regarding security guarantees - Washington is only considering continued intelligence sharing with Ukraine and possibly assistance in air defense.

Sources told the outlet that Trump is dissatisfied with Zelenskyy and Europe’s demands for peace. In his view, Ukraine and European countries should accept that Ukraine may have to give up some territory. At the same time, the American leader does not want to increase US involvement, fearing it could alienate radical Republicans.

"He just wants this over. It almost doesn’t matter how," an unnamed senior official told journalists.

Ukraine and Europe’s demands

On August 13, after a phone call with European partners and US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that five principles for ending the war had been agreed upon.

Specifically, these principles include a ceasefire and reliable security guarantees for Ukraine.

They also stipulate that Russia should not have veto power over Ukraine’s accession to the EU or NATO.

In turn, Russia demands that Ukraine fully withdraw its troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In exchange, Moscow promises to halt further territorial occupation.
