On Thursday, US President-elect Donald Trump stated that the war between Russia and Ukraine should come to an end, emphasizing that his administration will focus on this issue, reports CNN.
Speaking in Florida, Trump expressed regret over the deaths caused by the war and stated that it must be stopped.
"We’re going to work very hard on Russia and Ukraine. It’s gotta stop. Russia and Ukraine’s gotta stop," Trump said.
He added that it does not matter who is dying, whether soldiers or civilians in the cities. Trump emphasized, "We’re going to work it."
Does Trump intend to end the war
According to a source from Fox News, Donald Trump may soon appoint a special envoy for peace in Ukraine. The envoy will be tasked with leading negotiations with Russia to end the war.
"You’re going to see a very senior special envoy, someone with a lot of credibility, who will be given a task to find a resolution, to get to a peace settlement," the source said.
Recently, the Associated Press reported that, according to Trump's statements, on his first day in the White House, he would have a lot to do. Specifically, he would work to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table.
Earlier, it was reported that on Thursday, November 7, Trump reportedly held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to The Washington Post, they discussed the war. The source said that during the conversation, Trump advised Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine and reminded him of Washington's significant presence. Additionally, the newly elected US president expressed interest in further discussions to resolve the war in Ukraine as quickly as possible.
