The United States barely uses oil from the Strait of Hormuz, and countries interested in the blocked energy resources can freely buy them from Washington, US President Donald Trump said in an address to the nation.

"The United States imports almost no oil through the Hormuz Strait and won't be taking any in the future. The countries of the world that receive oil through the Hormuz Strait must take care of that passage. They must grab it and cherish it. They can do it easily," the President of the United States said.

He also emphasized that the United States can "be helpful" in carrying out such an operation. However, the initiative should belong to other states. The American president also offered them an alternative: to buy oil from the United States or to go and take it in the Strait of Hormuz.

"So, to those countries that can't get fuel, many of which refuse to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, we had to do it ourselves. I have a suggestion. Number one, buy oil from the United States of America. We have plenty. We have so much. And number two, build up some delayed courage. Should have done it before. Should have done it with us as we asked. Go to the strait and just take it, protect it, use it for yourselves," Trump added.

Situation around the Strait of Hormuz

After the start of the military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran, Tehran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a key energy artery of the world.

About 20% of the world's oil volume and a significant share of liquefied gas pass through this strait.

Earlier, the WSJ wrote that the US president told his aides that he is ready to end the war against Iran. He agrees to this even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed.

Trump also stated that countries affected by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz should go and take their oil themselves.
