During the 2024 presidential campaign, he repeatedly stated his intention not to involve the country in new armed conflicts. In particular, in his victory speech after the election results were announced, he emphasized that he planned not to start wars but to stop them.
"I didn't guarantee no war. Why would I have built the strongest military in the world? " Trump said.
At the same time, the US leader denied breaking any promises made to voters during his campaign. According to him, the development of the defense sector itself indicates a state’s readiness for military action.
"So when you say I promised, I didn't promise anything. I don't like these endless wars. This is not an endless war. We’ve been doing this for three months," he stressed.
Trump launched a war against Iran without approval from the US Congress. Because of this, he is currently facing increasing pressure and calls to stop the financially burdensome conflict.
Recently, Trump said he believes a deal with Iran could be reached this week to extend the ceasefire and restore operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US president also suggested that a potential peace agreement with Iran could turn out to be "even better than a military victory."
Earlier, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution opposing the war with Iran. For the first time, four Republicans joined Democrats in the vote, effectively publicly opposing Trump’s position.
