US President Donald Trump claims that the United States has ended the war with Iran. According to him, Tehran has agreed never to possess nuclear weapons, CNN reports.

"I don’t know if you heard, but we ended the war with Iran today. They have agreed never to have a nuclear weapon, something that we insisted on," Trump said.

As CNN notes, there has been no official confirmation of such an agreement from Tehran so far.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told state media that the country has not yet made a final decision on any agreement with the United States.

According to Baghaei, reports that an agreement has been reached are "pure speculation."

Meanwhile, Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, questioned Trump's statements.

"The likelihood of deception from Trump is high," he wrote on X.

According to the lawmaker, the White House chief may be trying to maintain a temporary calm while simultaneously urging Iran not to stop its attacks.

Trump's earlier statements and what is known about the deal

It is worth noting that only hours before declaring the war over, Trump warned of a "very powerful" strike against Iran and vowed to seize Kharg Island, a key hub for Iranian oil exports.

Later, the US president said he had canceled those plans because, according to him, the "final points" of an agreement between the two sides had been approved.

Meanwhile, Axios reports that the United States and Iran have agreed on the text of a preliminary deal. The agreement reportedly includes extending the ceasefire for 60 days and easing sanctions on Tehran.
