Ukraine against 'land swaps'
US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet in Alaska on Friday, August 15. During the summit, Putin may present Trump with an ultimatum — to recognize the occupied territories of Ukraine as Russian in exchange for the withdrawal of Russian forces from other regions and areas.
Ukraine has already stated that it does not plan to hand over any territory to Russia or legally recognize it as Russian. These issues are not even up for discussion.
At the same time, Russia repeated its ultimatum today. It concerns Russia’s demands for the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Russia also requires Ukraine to abandon its NATO aspirations and lift all Western sanctions.
On August 13, during a conversation between Zelenskyy, Trump, and European leaders, five common principles were agreed upon regarding ending Russia’s war against Ukraine. One of them is that no territorial concessions will be made without effective security guarantees for Ukraine.
