US President Donald Trump has confirmed the possibility of a visit to China and named the key condition for an official trip, according to his post on Truth Social.

"The fake news is reporting that I am seeking a 'summit' with President Xi of China. This is not correct, I am not seeking anything!" Trump wrote.

US President also emphasized that he might travel to China, but only if he receives an invitation from President Xi, which has already been extended.

"Otherwise, no interest! Thank you for your attention to this matter," the US President added.

Earlier, The Times reported that Chinese leader Xi Jinping wants to arrange a trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

According to the media outlet, Xi is likely to invite Trump to attend a parade in China marking the end of World War II in September. Putin, who has already accepted Xi's invitation, is also expected to attend the celebration.

Analysts, along with some Chinese citizens, have urged Xi Jinping to use the occasion to host a three-way summit with Trump and Putin. As The Times notes, Trump and Xi have previously exchanged mutual invitations for visits, but no specific dates have been set.

Trump's relations with China

On April 2, 2025, US President Donald Trump announced that he would impose tariffs on goods from all countries worldwide. Just a week later, on April 9, Trump paused tariff hikes for a number of countries, excluding China. The US leader said that countries had 90 days to reach trade agreements with the United States.

On May 12, the US and China announced that they had agreed to a 90-day trade truce.

In addition, on July 28, Trump's administration had effectively suspended new restrictions on tech exports to China to avoid complicating ongoing trade negotiations with Beijing.
