Trump confirms death of Russians in crash near Washington: Details
The crashed plane near Washington had Russians on board. The plane crash involving an American Airlines flight and a Black Hawk helicopter occurred on January 29, Bloomberg reports.
In particular, Trump expressed his condolences to all those who lost friends and relatives in the disaster.
"For the family members back in Wichita, Kansas, here in Washington, DC, and throughout the United States," Trump said.
According to the US president, "a Russia contingent of very talented people, unfortunately, were on that plane."
"Very, very, very sorry about that - whose loved ones were boarded the passenger jet," he added.
According to Trump, the US will hand over the remains of the Russians who died in the crash to Russia, but he did not discuss the incident with the Kremlin leader.
"I have not, no. Not about this," Trump replied when asked by journalists if he had communicated with Putin regarding the plane crash.
Plane and helicopter crash near Washington
On January 29, a plane crash occurred near Washington. A Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft of American Airlines collided with a Black Hawk helicopter.
There were more than 60 people on board the plane. Among them were representatives of Russia's figure skating school. According to media reports, they were returning home from Ucheto, where the US Figure Skating Championship had been held. There were over 10 figure skaters aboard, not counting the coaches.
