US President Donald Trump said that two weeks ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked him for help in resolving the war in Ukraine, according to Trump’s remarks at the American Business Forum in Miami.

Trump stated that during their phone call, Putin claimed he has been trying to end the war for 10 years but has been unable to do so.

“I spoke to him two weeks ago and he said, "We've been trying to settle that war for 10 years. We weren't able to do it. You got us settled,” the US president said.

Trump also emphasized that he has been able to resolve similar issues in an hour without any help from the UN.

Earlier, in an interview with CBS News, Donald Trump expressed confidence that the war in Ukraine could be resolved in a short period, roughly a few months.

When asked by a journalist whether he believes the war in Ukraine could end within a couple of months, Trump responded affirmatively.

The American leader also added that, in his view, Moscow is seeking to restore contacts with Washington.

Trump previously stated he had successfully ended eight wars and expressed confidence that the war between Russia and Ukraine could become the ninth conflict he would be able to resolve.
