US President Donald Trump called the European Union’s sanctions on Russia 'too weak' and urged European partners to impose stricter measures, reports Rapid Response 47.

The president described European countries as his friends but expressed frustration that they continue to purchase Russian oil.

He believes NATO and European nations should unite and impose sanctions on Russia.

“The sanctions that they're putting on are not tough enough. I'm willing to do sanctions, but they're going to have to toughen up their sanctions commensurate with what I'm doing,” Trump said.

Over the past few months, the US president has repeatedly threatened to impose new sanctions on Russia due to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to negotiate an end to the war.

Recently, Trump announced a major sanctions strike on Russia, potentially targeting the oil sector and banks.

The US and EU countries are negotiating a joint position to pressure the Kremlin through sanctions on oil and gas.

Meanwhile, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stated that European countries should support Trump’s initiative to punish nations acting as Putin’s trading partners.
