US President Donald Trump said during a Christmas event that he needs to return to issues related to Ukraine, Russia, and China, according to a broadcast by the White House.
In particular, on the evening of December 24, US media published Donald Trump’s schedule for the day. According to it, the US president spent the morning playing golf and in the evening took time to speak with children by phone to discuss Santa Claus’s journey.
During one of the calls, Trump even complained, in a sense, that while he could talk all day, he had to return to other matters.
"Could do this all day long. We have to get back to China, Russia, Ukraine. We have to get back to other things, but this is you could do this all day long," Trump said.
He also made several other remarks, including:
-
"We want to make sure Santa hasn’t been replaced, that some bad Santa isn’t trying to sneak into our country.";
-
"Our country needs more people with high IQs";
-
"Yesterday’s GDP was 4.3%, two points higher than expected. People were shocked. That’s thanks to tariffs."
Ukraine on path to peace
In November 2025, Trump made another attempt to achieve an end to the war in Ukraine.
In particular, his special envoy Steve Witkoff, together with the Russian side, developed a new 28-point peace plan. The document was widely seen as favoring Russia, so over the course of a month, Ukraine, the United States, and Europe worked to revise it to make it more acceptable to Kyiv.
As a result, the plan was shortened, and on December 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented all 20 points of the revised peace proposal.
It is now expected that the Kremlin will respond to the plan. A day earlier, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said the "ball is now in Russia’s court."
According to Bloomberg, Moscow has questions regarding the size of Ukraine’s armed forces, sanctions, and frozen assets.
Another day later, Whitaker suggested that peace in Ukraine could be achieved within the next 90 days.
