Trump appoints billionaire Feinberg as deputy defense secretary
Donald Trump, the newly elected president, announced his intention to appoint billionaire Stephen Feinberg as deputy secretary of defense. The election winner also revealed the name of the nominee for deputy secretary of defense for policy, reports Reuters.
Feinberg is the co-owner of Cerberus Capital Management LP, a private investment firm that invests in defense contractors. He served on the advisory board for intelligence matters during Trump’s first term in 2017-2021.
The agency notes that Feinberg will become the No. 2 position at the Pentagon if Trump selects the former Fox News host Pete Hegseth as defense secretary. Hegseth faces questions over allegations of alcohol abuse and inappropriate sexual behavior, though he denies any wrongdoing.
Additionally, Trump has nominated Elbridge Colby as deputy secretary of defense for policy, the No. 3 position at the Pentagon. Colby, known as a China hawk, was a senior official at the US Department of Defense during Trump’s first term.
Trump's candidates for the US power bloc
Immediately after his election victory in November, Trump announced his plan to nominate Fox News host and Army veteran Pete Hegseth as the new US defense secretary.
At the same time, the media reported that the winner of the election is considering other candidates for the Pentagon.
Furthermore, Trump officially appointed Mike Waltz, a Republican, as his national security advisor.
