US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed during a phone call to create two working groups under a peace plan, reports Russian media, citing Yuri Ushakov, aide to the Russian president.

According to Ushakov, the first group will focus on security issues, while the second will address economic matters.

The parameters of the groups' work will be defined in early January next year, Russian media reported.

Ushakov said the conversation lasted one hour and 15 minutes and described it as "friendly, positive, and businesslike."

He added that Donald Trump carefully listened to Russia’s assessment of the real prospects for reaching an agreement on a "peaceful, long-term settlement of the Ukrainian conflict."

He also noted that proposals by Ukrainians and Europeans for a temporary ceasefire, whether under the pretext of preparing for a referendum or for other reasons, would only prolong the conflict and risk a resumption of hostilities.

"For their final ceasefire, what is needed first and foremost, of course, from Kyiv is a bold and responsible political decision. This is a decision on Donbas," Ushakov said.

Ushakov referred to Trump's words, saying the US president had "once again become convinced of Russia’s desire for a political and diplomatic settlement" and added that "it is precisely with this in mind that he intends to structure today’s negotiations with Zelenskyy."

According to Ushakov, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump agreed to hold another phone call promptly after the US president's meeting at Mar-a-Lago with the Ukrainian delegation team later this evening.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump described his conversation with Vladimir Putin as "good and very productive."

Notably, Kremlin officials previously said that a conversation between Trump and Putin was not scheduled this year.

However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is preparing to make contact with the US to understand how much Trump's peace plan has evolved following coordination with Ukraine.
