Trump agrees to debate with Harris: Date set
Republican Donald Trump has agreed to Fox News' offer to debate Kamala Harris on September 4. Previously, he had refused such debates due to Harris's unofficial status as the Democratic candidate, reports Reuters.
"Rules will be similar to the rules of my debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his party, but with a full arena audience," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, referring to President Joe Biden, who withdrew his re-election bid.
Harris stated last month that she is "ready" after Fox News proposed presidential debates between the two candidates on September 17.
After Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed Harris, Trump said he would not debate her since she was not an official candidate.
As evidence of her lack of support, Trump added that former President Barack Obama had not yet endorsed her. However, Obama did so the following day, and by that time, Harris had secured the delegate votes necessary for the Democratic Party nomination.
US elections
On November 5, the U.S. will hold its presidential election. Initially, the candidates were former President Donald Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden.
On July 21, President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election for a second term.
On August 2, the Democrats held a vote in which they selected the official presidential candidate — Vice President Kamala Harris.
