Trump admits to cutting aid to Ukraine when he comes to power in US
Newly elected US President Donald Trump said he would try to end Russia's war against Ukraine. However, he noted that Ukraine may receive less aid after he comes to power, reports NBC News.
In his “Meet the Press” interview, Trump said he was actively trying to end the war “if he can.” He added that Ukraine “possibly” can expect to not receive as much military assistance from the United States when he returns to power.
At the same time, the politician did not commit to keeping the United States in NATO, the European military alliance that has been a bulwark against Russia since World War II.
However, Trump emphasized that he would maintain America's role in NATO if members “pay their bills.”
Even before the election, Trump stated that if he won, the United States would not withdraw from NATO and, moreover, would come to the aid of countries in case of an attack.
However, he noted that in order to do so, the EU must “play fair” and pay its dues. Read more about Trump's position in the RBC-Ukraine article.
