US President Donald Trump linked the rise in gasoline prices in the country to the war in Iran. According to him, high fuel prices have kept Americans from noticing his presidency's economic achievements, Bloomberg reports.

Trump congratulates the Democrats on "a good job." The party secured victories in the elections, gaining control of both houses of Congress and several governorships.

For the Republicans, the election results were disappointing. They suffered defeats not only in traditionally competitive regions but also in states that were previously considered their strongholds.

However, Trump does not take responsibility for his party's results. He states that even a successful president cannot guarantee victory in an election.

"No matter how good the president is, you lose," he says.

Explaining voters' dissatisfaction, the president cited gas prices. According to him, Americans were unable to feel the economic benefits of his presidency precisely because of rising fuel costs, which he linked to the war in Iran.

He emphasizes that the United States has the strongest economy and that during his first term, he presided over the best economy. However, he notes that because of gas prices, people did not notice this as much as they otherwise would have, adding that the gas price problem was caused by the Iran war.

At the same time, Trump once again defends the US military campaign in the Middle East. He calls it necessary to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons.

"It's just the way it is," the President adds.

Despite the shift in the balance of power in Congress, Trump says he is ready to cooperate with the House of Representatives and the Senate if Democrats are interested in doing the same.

At the same time, the President makes it clear that he has no intention of backing down on issues with which he disagrees. He reminds everyone of his veto power, which allows the head of state to block bills passed by Congress.
