US President Donald Trump is open to resuming negotiations on natural resources with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. However, this will happen only if Zelenskyy changes his position, states US President's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, according to Fox News.

According to him, Zelenskyy must apologize for the incident that occurred during the previous negotiations at the White House.

"What we need to hear from President Zelenskyy is that he has regret for what happened, he’s ready to sign this minerals deal, and that he’s ready to engage in peace talks. I don’t think that’s too much to ask," Waltz said.

It is worth noting that Waltz previously stated that Ukraine could make territorial concessions as part of negotiations for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Clash between Trump and Zelenskyy

Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington, where he met with US President Donald Trump and his team at the White House.

However, during a conversation with journalists in the Oval Office, a dispute broke out between Zelenskyy and Trump. Trump stated that Zelenskyy had "no cards left to play" and accused him of being ungrateful for the aid provided.

Following this, Zelenskyy left the White House ahead of schedule, and the agreement on rare earth metals was not signed. Trump accused the Ukrainian president of allegedly being unwilling to pursue peace.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused Zelenskyy of "undermining efforts" toward peace negotiations.
