Trump acknowledges that Russia may 'delay' peace agreement regarding Ukraine

US President Donald Trump suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin might be stalling on negotiations for a ceasefire with Ukraine. At the same time, the White House leader believes that the Kremlin ultimately wants to end the war, according to Politico.
In response to a question from a reporter at the American cable television network Newsmax about whether he believes Moscow is stalling on ceasefire negotiations, Trump acknowledged the possibility of such a scenario.
According to the US president, he believes that Russia wants to end its large-scale military aggression against Ukraine.
“But it could be that they’re dragging their feet," Trump acknowledged, adding that he had used the same tactic in his past dealings to buy time.
"II’ve done it over the years... You know, I don’t want to sign a contract, I want to sort of stay in the game but maybe I don’t want to do it quite, I’m not sure," he explained this approach.
At the same time, Trump reiterated his belief that both Ukraine and Russia want the war to end.
The American leader said that he thought Russia would like the conflict to end and that he believed Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, would like it to end at this stage.
He also again expressed his assessment of the losses both sides are suffering, stating that, on average, 2,500 servicemen are lost every week. He emphasized that he just wants it to stop.
Trump's assessment of the results of the negotiations between the US, Ukraine, and Russia
As previously reported, yesterday, US President Trump stated that the US is witnessing significant progress in resolving the Russia-Ukraine war, which was achieved during negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
This statement followed a series of meetings in Riyadh between Ukrainian and US delegations, as well as Russian and US representatives. The parties held separate technical discussions regarding the possibility of a ceasefire.
It was revealed after the talks that Ukraine agreed to a ceasefire in the Black Sea and an energy truce with Russia.
Official Moscow declared that it agreed only to the idea of the energy truce. In the case of a ceasefire in the sea, Russia demanded that the West first lift part of its sanctions.
Commenting on this, Trump noted that the US is considering Russia's conditions for a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine in the Black Sea, which include partial lifting of sanctions.
It is also worth recalling that in March, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that Trump was prepared to further intensify economic sanctions against Russia to force it into peace negotiations.
Additionally, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, on March 13, Trump threatened to increase sanctions against Russia if it refused to negotiate. At the same time, it is noted that there could also be a possibility of easing sanctions if the Kremlin agrees to a ceasefire in Ukraine.
