Trudeau may lose his position as Prime Minister of Canada - Media
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could lose his position in January, as he faces the threat of a vote of no confidence, reports Reuters.
The reason for this may be the actions of Trudeau's key ally, Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic Party, who has been helping the Prime Minister remain in office and announced he would submit an official vote of no confidence. According to Singh, this will happen after the elected members of the House of Commons return from their winter break on January 27.
"No matter who is leading the Liberal Party, this government's time is up. We will put forward a clear motion of non-confidence in the next sitting of the House of Commons," said Singh.
The leader of the Bloc Quebecois, the larger opposition party, promised to support the motion and stated there is no scenario in which Trudeau survives.
If all opposition parties support this motion, Trudeau will step down after more than nine years as Prime Minister. Elections will also be held.
Reuters reports that a series of polls conducted over the past 18 months show that the Liberals, suffering from voter fatigue and anger over high prices and the housing crisis, are facing a crushing defeat by the official opposition - the center-right Conservatives.
