Trudeau affirms Canada's commitment to assist Ukraine as needed
Canada will provide ongoing support to Ukraine with the necessary resources for as long as it is required to aid the country in their conflict, as stated by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"In 1932 and 1933, Joseph Stalin’s Soviet regime inflicted a deliberate famine across Ukraine. The Holodomor – ‘death by hunger’ – was a genocide that resulted in the starvation of millions of innocent Ukrainians, including children. The Soviet regime also arrested, deported, and executed Ukrainians. Stalin perpetrated the Holodomor in an attempt to repress the will of the Ukrainian people, erase their identity, and destroy their aspirations for a free and independent Ukraine," the Prime Minister of Canada said.
According to him, Ukrainians do not back down from those who attempt to eradicate their culture and identity.
"Today, we join Ukrainian communities in Canada and around the world to mark 90 years since the Holodomor and to honor the millions of innocent victims who suffered or lost their lives," Trudeau emphasized.
He also reminded us that since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Canada has provided billions of dollars in financial and military assistance to Ukraine and will continue to provide the necessary assistance.
Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden honored the memory of Ukrainians who died during the Holodomor of 1932-1933.
