The Russian army attacked railway assets and rolling stock in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, around midday on May 30, according to a statement from the state-owned national rail freight and passenger carrier Ukrzaliznytsia.

Russia continues to target Ukrainian civilian railway infrastructure.

The attack killed a train engineer, while two other railway workers were injured.

The strike also damaged an electric locomotive and a diesel locomotive. The two injured railway employees are receiving medical treatment.

Earlier, in early March, a drone struck a commuter train car while it was in motion in the Kryvyi Rih district of Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region. One person was killed, and 10 others were injured.

On April 13, Russian forces struck near the locomotive of a freight train in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Thanks to a timely evacuation, no one was injured.

During the night of May 30, dozens of Shahed drones directly hit and destroyed the railway station building in the city of Shostka, Sumy region. Station infrastructure was also damaged, but there were no casualties among passengers or railway staff.
