Train accident in Carpathians: What we know and when trains to run again

On a popular route through the Carpathians, train traffic was urgently halted on May 22 due to technical problems with the railway.
Read in the RBC-Ukraine report details about the accident and when train service will be restored.
Why trains are stopped
On the evening of May 22, the Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia reported that train traffic on the section between Yasinya and Voronenko stations was temporarily suspended due to infrastructure issues. A landslide occurred on the route through the Carpathians, causing the tracks to sink.
Due to the accident, the departure of train No. 96 Rakhiv-Kyiv from Yasinya station was delayed. For passenger safety, the train passed through the damaged section at a reduced speed under dispatcher control.
Specialists quickly examined the track and began repair work. Ukrzaliznytsia warned that the railway requires full repairs, so all trains in the Rakhiv direction have changed their final destinations.
When train service through Carpathians to be restored
By the morning of May 23, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that work on the damaged track continued through the night. The repair may take up to three days, as the section is difficult for ground reinforcement.
Passengers of train No. 96 Rakhiv-Kyiv are being transported in reserve cars following a bus transfer from Yasinya. Similar transfers throughout the day will deliver passengers from other trains in the Rakhiv direction to Yasinya, Kvasiv, and Rakhiv.
"For passengers of all long-distance trains, Ukrzaliznytsia is organizing bus transfers in both directions from the final stations of the temporarily shortened routes," the railway company reported.
On the night of May 23, the Russian army attacked the railway in western Ukraine with drones. Due to the strike, railway infrastructure in the Chernivtsi region was damaged.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, there were no killed or injured victims among workers or passengers. Train operations remained unchanged.
