The United States will receive permission to deploy elements of the Golden Dome missile defense system in Greenland, said US President Donald Trump in an interview with Fox Business, according to CNN.

According to Trump, negotiations over Greenland effectively grant the United States full access to the island’s defense infrastructure. He noted that while technical details are still being discussed, the essence of the agreements is already clear.

"It’s really being negotiated now, the details of it, but essentially it’s total access. It’s there’s no end, there’s no time limit," the US President said.

He clarified that this includes, in particular, the possibility of deploying the Golden Dome missile defense system.

"We’re getting everything we want at no cost," Trump added.

Trump also stressed Greenland’s strategic importance for global security.

"It’s a very important part, because it’s everything comes over Greenland. If the bad guys start shooting, it comes over Greenland. So we knock it down. It’s pretty infallible. It’s amazing," he stated.

What else is known about Greenland

Earlier, Trump had already stated that the USA needs Greenland to deploy elements of the Golden Dome missile defense system.

The US President demanded that Greenland be placed under American control to build missile defense infrastructure. According to him, if NATO does not act immediately, the strategically important island could be seized by Russia or China.

On January 21, the US President and the NATO Secretary General discussed a potential deal regarding Greenland.

According to Western media reports, the agreement does not provide for the transfer of full sovereignty over Greenland from Denmark to the United States.

Instead, the plan involves updating the 1951 Greenland Defense Agreement between the US and Denmark. That agreement allows the United States to build military bases on the island and establish defense zones if NATO deems it necessary.

Other media outlets have reported that the US is ready to purchase Greenland for $700 billion.
