The Freya project is moving forward, but Ukraine wants to speed up the process because protection against ballistic threats is critical.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said this after a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, according to an RBC-Ukraine correspondent.

"An extraordinary result has already been achieved in terms of the timeline. Zelenskyy brought the leaders together. This year, we created an anti-ballistic coalition in a unique format because, in addition to leaders and senior government officials from the coalition countries, manufacturers were also involved," the Ukrainian foreign minister said.

Work is now underway directly between the manufacturers and other participants involved in the project's practical implementation.

Sybiha stressed that there are no doubts that Freya will be implemented. At the same time, the key issue is how much time will be needed to make the relevant decisions.

"There is no doubt that this project will be implemented. The only question is the time it will take and how quickly decisions are made," the minister said.

He added that Ukraine is working directly with all the countries involved and sees significant interest in the program.

According to Sybiha, Freya is important not only for Ukraine. The project is linked to strengthening the protection of European airspace, Ukraine's self-sufficiency and protecting civilian lives.

"Therefore, this will undoubtedly also be a priority in our upcoming actions and decisions, meetings and discussions," he stressed.

As previously reported, Fire Point plans to conduct the first interception of a ballistic missile under the Freya project by mid-2027. Thirteen European partners have already joined the development effort.
