President of Kazakhstan calls Russia invincible
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Kazakhstan for an official visit, with the conflict in Ukraine being one of the topics discussed with Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, according to the Kazakh President's press service.
Tokayev commented on the war in Ukraine, stating that "Russia is invincible," and further conflict could have global repercussions.
"The fact is, from a military standpoint, Russia is invincible. Further escalation of the war will lead to irreversible consequences for all humanity and, primarily, for all countries directly involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict," said Tokayev.
In his view, a good chance for at least a ceasefire was lost with the rejection of the Istanbul Agreement.
"However, the possibility for peace still exists. We must carefully consider all peace initiatives from different countries and come to a decision to stop the fighting, then move on to discuss territorial issues. In our view, the peace plans from China and Brazil deserve support," he stated.
Tokayev also noted that cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia is developing within the framework of strategic partnership and alliance.
At the same time, he emphasized that his country "sympathizes" with Ukrainians.
"In Kazakhstan, there is genuine sympathy for the Ukrainian people and their unique culture. There have never been disagreements between our countries. Our embassy continues to function in Kyiv," he said.
It is worth noting that earlier this year, Kazakhstan refused to fully adhere to all Western sanctions against Russia.
