What Witkoff really offered Putin on Ukraine: Media leak details

During a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin, US special envoy Steve Witkoff voiced a "very lucrative offer," promising a gradual lifting of sanctions and a return to importing Russian energy resources, reports Onet.
According to the Polish media outlet, the proposal of the US special envooy, which he handed over to Putin, contained both points favorable to Russia and those with which the Kremlin had previously fundamentally disagreed.
Among the key positions allegedly announced by Witkoff in Moscow:
- Ukraine and Russia will sign a ceasefire;
- Actual recognition of Russian territorial gains by postponing discussions on this issue for 49 or 99 years;
- Lifting most sanctions against Russia;
- Return to importing Russian gas and oil in the long term;
- No guarantees of NATO's non-expansion;
- No guarantees to suspend military support for Ukraine.
Witkoff's visit to Moscow
Yesterday, August 6, US special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Russia and met with Putin. This visit pushed a new wave of discussions about possible talks between the leaders of the United States and Russia.
After the meeting in Moscow, the media reported that Putin had allegedly offered Donald Trump to hold talks "at some point." The White House confirmed that Trump had agreed and said he was ready to meet with the Russian president next week.
The New York Times reported that Trump intends to organize a trilateral meeting with himself, Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to journalists, Trump has already informed European leaders of this plan.
The US State Department emphasized that Trump's talks with Putin would depend on progress in resolving the war in Ukraine. This position was voiced by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The US president also had a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and some European leaders also joined the discussion.
Today, August 7, it became known that Trump instructed his team to quickly prepare talks with Putin and Zelenskyy to implement the idea of a meeting as soon as possible.
Also today, on August 7, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine had proposed three formats for future peace talks. They are to take place shortly at the level of leaders, and Kyiv expects Moscow to be determined and open to dialogue.
