Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined three key areas in which Ukraine expects support from Germany: security guarantees after the war, defense funding, and assistance in protecting the energy system, according to the president’s statement ahead of his meeting with Bundestag President Julia Klöckner.

Zelenskyy outlines three key areas of support expected from Germany

The first area, the president said, is security guarantees after the war.

"At the beginning of the year, there was an important meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris, during which a decision was made regarding security guarantees — the part that depends on our European colleagues," Zelenskyy said. "We hope that German parliamentarians will support Germany’s participation in security guarantees after the war ends.”

The second area is financial support for the Ukrainian army.

According to the president, Germany is one of Ukraine’s largest partners in military assistance, particularly through the PURL program, which allows the purchase of missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

"These are ongoing allocations, decisions on which are made both at the government level and at the parliamentary level. For us, this is very important," he emphasized.

The third area is assistance in strengthening Ukraine’s energy sector.

The president noted that Ukraine is preparing a plan to decentralize its energy system, aimed at increasing resilience against Russian attacks.

"Protection is needed in various forms: additional gas and electricity supply, building interconnectors. It is also necessary to technically increase import capacity from Europe in case of shortages. In addition, there are boilers, wind and solar generation, and much more. We expect German support in this. There will be support," the Ukrainian leader added.

Zelenskyy also said Ukraine expects support from Germany and the European Union in the negotiation process.

"Because in this track there are issues of Ukraine’s reconstruction, Europe’s security infrastructure, and Ukraine’s EU membership. Each of these issues is important, and we rely on support for them. This depends on the parliaments, because it concerns the country’s position," he summarized.

At the same time, Ukraine is sharing its combat experience from the war with Russia with its partners. Ukrainian military instructors will soon travel to Germany to train German soldiers.

In Berlin, plans are underway to strengthen the army’s preparation for potential threats from Russia. According to intelligence assessments from Germany and other NATO countries, Moscow could be ready for a large-scale attack on the Alliance as early as 2029.
