This well-known medicine slows down aging

According to a DO-HEALTH study, a daily intake of one gram of Omega-3 can help slow down the rate of biological aging, says Ukrainian nutritionist Oleh Shvets.
What did the study show
For three years, 777 study participants, who were 75 years old, consumed one gram of Omega-3 daily. The results showed that this slowed down aging on three of the four epigenetic clocks that measure a person's biological age.
The effect of Omega-3 on slowing down aging ranged from 2.9 to 3.8 months. Interestingly, this result did not depend on the participants' gender, age, or body mass index.
The study also included an assessment of the impact of vitamin D and strength training on the health of older adults, but no statistically significant differences were found in improving blood pressure, fracture rates, physical performance, infection rates, or cognitive function. However, other DO-HEALTH studies have shown that the combination of omega-3, vitamin D, and exercise reduces the risk of precancerous conditions and invasive cancer.
The researchers explain their interest in biomarkers of aging by the fact that clinical trials among older adults often have many possible outcome measures, and the benefits of interventions may not be apparent for a long time. That is why the research focuses on molecular markers, such as the epigenetic clock, which allows us to estimate the rate of biological aging.
The analysis found a positive impact of daily omega-3 intake, especially for people with low baseline omega-3 levels. However, the authors note that the results should be considered preliminary due to the relatively small sample size and composition, as the study included mostly healthy people.
