Germany will not send its warships to protect vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, stated German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, according to Tagesschau.

"This is not our war, we did not start it. We want diplomatic solutions and a quick end, but additional warships in the region are unlikely to contribute to that," Pistorius said, commenting on the call by US President Donald Trump.

He noted that Germany has responsibilities for NATO’s eastern flank and the Atlantic.

"This is our primary responsibility. Everything else may or may not be added in specific cases," the minister clarified.

What Trump said

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that countries receiving oil through the Strait of Hormuz should join the US-Israeli operation against Iran.

He called for ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open despite Iran’s attempts to block it.

Australia, France, Japan, China, and the United Kingdom have already stated that they do not intend to send their warships to the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for oil exports from Middle Eastern countries.

More details about the Strait of Hormuz can be found in the RBC-Ukraine report.
