The United States is holding talks with allied countries on joint patrols of the Strait of Hormuz to protect shipping amid rising military tensions in Iran, according to US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz, as cited by CNN.

Security talks

Ambassador Waltz confirmed that Washington views the involvement of international partners as a necessary step toward global economic stability. He noted that discussions on assistance to reopen the strait are already underway.

"(The US will – ed.) certainly welcome, encourage and even demand their participation to help their own economies," the US ambassador to the UN emphasized.

The call to allies came after Donald Trump stated he expects China, France, Japan, the UK, and other countries to send warships to the region for a joint mission with the United States.

International partners' reaction

So far, most countries are cautious. In China, officials have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, stressing shared responsibility for energy security.

UK officials confirmed that consultations are taking place but made no specific commitments regarding naval deployment.

"(The UK is – ed.) currently discussing with our allies and partners a range of options to ensure the security of shipping in the region," the British Ministry of Defense said.

Meanwhile, Japan noted that any decision to deploy warships would face "high hurdles."

Strait of Hormuz situation

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he is preparing a "team effort" in the Strait of Hormuz, urging allies to join forces in patrolling the region.

The White House has also confirmed the possibility of deploying US military convoys to safeguard commercial vessels amid threats from Iran.

At the same time, reports indicate that European countries are conducting secret talks with Iran, attempting to find a diplomatic solution and prevent a major escalation in the region.
