Third incident this week: Two Russian drones enter Romanian airspace
Romanian radar systems once again detected two signals, likely from drones, which violated the country's airspace, reports Reuters.
This is the third such incident in less than a week.
The signals were detected in the southeastern counties of Constanța and Tulcea, the latter of which borders Ukraine via the Danube. Despite fighter jets being deployed, visual contact with the targets could not be established, and the radars lost sight of them.
Similar incidents occurred last week when radars detected two drones, but the fighter jets were also unable to identify them, and the crash sites of the objects were not found.
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu suggested that these incidents might be related to cyberattacks.
The situation is concerning against the backdrop of regular falls of Russian drone fragments on Romanian territory, a member of the EU and NATO.
These incidents occur amid Moscow's attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure. Concerns particularly heightened in September when Russian drones violated the airspace of Romania and Latvia.
Night attack on Ukraine
On the evening of October 23, Russian troops once again attacked Ukraine, launching Shahed drones.
In Kyiv, an air raid alert was announced around 10 PM due to the drone threat. A second siren sounded around 1:43 AM when a new wave of Shahed drones began. Air defense systems were active in the city and region, with explosions heard. The air raid alert ended at 3:37 AM.
