European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said good progress had been made during talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump, and European leaders, according to von der Leyen’s post on X.

"We had a good, one-hour-long call with President Trump, President Zelenskyy, and several European leaders to discuss their meeting today on peace negotiations. There was good progress, which we welcomed," the politician stated.

She added that Europe was ready to continue working with Ukraine and its American partners to consolidate this process.

"Paramount to this effort is to have ironclad security guarantees from day one," she concluded.

Trump–Zelenskyy meeting

On December 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Florida to meet US President Donald Trump and discuss a peace plan.

The US leader hosted the talks at his Mar-a-Lago residence. After the meeting, both presidents addressed the press and made a series of statements.

Zelenskyy said the 20-point peace plan had been agreed on by 90%, while US security guarantees were finalized in full.

"20-point peace plan is 90% agreed, US-Ukraine security guarantees - 100%, US-Europe-Ukraine security guarantees are almost agreed, military dimension - 100% agreed, prosperity plan is being finalized," he said.

Trump, for his part, said that overall, about 95% of the documents had been finalized.

Zelenskyy also announced that Ukrainian and US teams would meet again next week to finalize all outstanding issues. In addition, Trump is set to host Ukrainian and European leaders in Washington in January.
