Fighting continues in Toretsk, Donetsk region, and Ukrainian defenders can hold their positions. Therefore, there is currently no threat of the city being surrounded by the Russian army, as Roman Pohorilyi, co-founder and analyst of the Deep State platform, told RBC-Ukraine.

“If we talk about the direct line of contact, there are already battles in the cities. One of their (Russians' - ed.) tactics is to bring it to the point that it is impossible to hold it, as they did there, the closest example that comes to mind is the Kanal neighborhood in Chasiv Yar,” Pohorilyi said.

He recalled that the Russians first completely destroyed the neighborhood and then entered it. And then they suffered because when they left, they had nowhere to gain a foothold as they had destroyed everything themselves.

“Or Robotyne is the same, when they wiped out the settlement, and there is nowhere to go. And so it is with many settlements. If we talk about the fighting, it's also a little different. I mean, in Toretsk, they continue. In Toretsk, we have the opportunity to hold our positions. There is no threat of encirclement, as it was in Vuhledar,” the analyst added.

Situation in Toretsk

At the end of September, Russian troops entered the territory of Toretsk in the Donetsk region. Since then, urban fighting has been going on there.

It was reported recently that Russian troops had advanced into Toretsk. They have gained a foothold on two streets.

According to the Luhansk Operational and Tactical Group, the Russians control the eastern part of Toretsk. Now fighting is ongoing in other parts of the city.
