Senate Minority Leader falls and sprains his wrist at Republican lunch
During the confidential lunch of Republicans, the Senate Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, fell, spraining his wrist and bruising his face, informs ABC News.
McConnell's spokesman stated he tripped when leaving lunch, which led to a minor injury to his face and a sprained wrist.
"Leader McConnell tripped following lunch. He sustained a minor cut to the face and sprained his wrist. He has been cleared to resume his schedule," his spokesman said.
His office later confirmed McConnell had already received permission from a medical expert to return to his duties.
McConnell, 82, who walks with a limp since recovering from polio as a child, has already experienced such unpleasant incidents.
In March 2023, he fell at a Washington hotel, breaking his rib and severely injuring his head. Consequently, he was hospitalized and prescribed outpatient rehabilitation, which forced him to leave the Senate for six weeks.
Concerns were also raised in 2023 after McConnell was observed freezing on two occasions during televised events, though the Capitol physician later confirmed McConnell was capable of fulfilling his obligations.
Another medical incident occurred in 2023 when McConnell experienced freezing two times during televised events. However, the Capitol physician later confirmed McConnell was capable of fulfilling his obligations. Since then, Republicans have been raising concerns the veteran senator from Kentucky should retire. As a result, in February Mitch McConnell declared he would be stepping down from his leadership position, a role he has held for two decades.
