US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement on a ceasefire in the skies during talks in Alaska, according to Twitter posts from The Economist journalist Oliver Carroll.

Carroll stated that there is a preliminary deal to halt air operations until a meeting of the three leaders takes place.

"We think the skies will give signals about provisional results of these talks. The next week will be interesting," said a source familiar with Carroll’s reporting.

What is known about the aerial ceasefire

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Putin sees a ceasefire in the air with Ukraine as a concession to Trump. This refers to a pause in airstrikes using drones and missiles.

Later, RBC-Ukraine sources said that the Ukrainian side supports a so-called aerial ceasefire with Russia, but Moscow has yet to respond.

At the same time, advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, noted last week that Russia is unlikely to give up missile and long-range drone strikes against Ukraine, as targeting civilians remains a tool of the aggressor’s war.

Trump-Putin meeting

As a reminder, on August 16, Trump met with Putin at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska. The main topic of the talks was Russia’s war against Ukraine.

However, according to Trump, no ceasefire agreement was reached during the Alaska meeting. The former US president stated that the next steps now depend on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump also advised Zelenskyy after the talks to "make a deal" with Russia.

On the eve of the Alaska talks, Trump did not rule out that one possible outcome could be a quick meeting with both Zelenskyy and Putin.
