Trump on peace deal with Russia: now everything depends on Zelenskyy

Progress was made at the Alaska meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on settling Russia’s war against Ukraine, but now everything depends on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with a Fox News journalist.
Trump said his meeting with Putin had gone well and that many issues were discussed, but no ceasefire deal in Ukraine had been reached. He stressed that in his view, no agreement could be considered valid until it was formally concluded, though he noted that significant progress had been made.
"We agreed on a lot of points. I mean, a lot of points we agreed on. But there's not that much. It was one or two pretty significant items, but I think they can be reached. Now it is really up to President Zelenskyy to get it done," he marked.
He also described Russia’s war as terrible, pointing out that both sides were suffering heavy losses. He expressed hope that the conflict could be brought to an end, calling it a major priority.
Trump meets Putin in Alaska
Today, at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska, the US and Russian leaders met face-to-face for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. One of the central topics was Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Before the meeting, Trump had told reporters that he wanted the talks with Putin to result in some form of ceasefire in Ukraine. But at the press conference after nearly three hours of negotiations, he stated that although no deal had been reached, there had been progress.
Trump also announced plans to call Zelenskyy and NATO leaders to brief them on the results of his meeting with Putin.
