The US has tripled its tariffs against China. They concern the low-cost segment of goods, reports CNN.

Along with the increase in the overall rate of tariffs for China, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order that tripled tariffs on goods worth less than $800 from this country.

"Initially, those goods were set to face tariffs of 30% come May 2. But Trump’s latest executive order hiked the rates to 90%,” the media writes.

This will affect Americans who order from sites such as Shein, Temu, and AliExpress, which is likely to lead to higher prices for goods.

Currently, parcels worth less than $800 are exempt from tariffs.

Trump's tariffs

On April 2, Donald Trump imposed tariffs on key US trading partners, affecting trade worth trillions of dollars.

In particular, 34% tariffs on imports from China came into effect. Beijing has decided to impose a 34% tariff on imports from the United States starting April 10.

Beijing called Trump's decision on tariffs a “typical act of unilateral intimidation.” The other day, Trump said that the United States could impose an additional 50% tariff on imports from China if Beijing does not cancel the 34% tariff on American goods.
