Türkiye to join ceasefire monitoring in Gaza, says Erdoğan

Türkiye intends to join a working group that will monitor the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Reuters reports.
"God willing, we as Türkiye will take part in the task force that will monitor the agreement's implementation in the field," Erdogan said
He emphasized that Türkiye will also assist in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
At the same time, a Turkish official told the agency that the country will participate in a joint operational group together with Israel, the US, Qatar, and Egypt, created to locate the bodies of deceased hostages in Gaza, whose whereabouts are currently unknown.
According to Reuters, it is currently unclear whether the Turkish official and Erdogan are referring to the same group.
Trump's peace plan for Gaza
Last week, US President Donald Trump proposed a 20-point plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The document calls for the creation of an international Peace Council to oversee a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee responsible for the daily administration of Gaza. The council would be led by Trump himself and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
On October 6, indirect talks began in Egypt between Israel and Hamas, with Egypt, the US, and Qatar acting as mediators.
On the eve of the talks, Trump announced that the first phase of his peace plan had been signed by the parties. Under the plan, all hostages are expected to be released soon, and Israeli forces will withdraw to an agreed line.
The US President suggested that some hostages could be freed as early as October 13 as part of advancing the peace plan.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials reported that the release of 20 Israeli hostages held in Gaza is expected in the coming days.
Today, Israel stated that the Gaza ceasefire agreement will only take effect after government approval, which is expected at a session scheduled for the evening of October 9.
