Türkiye signs mega-deal with Boeing: Details revealed

Türkiye has signed a multibillion-dollar deal with Boeing for the supply of more than 200 passenger aircraft, which could significantly strengthen the country’s aviation fleet.
On September 25, the world’s attention was focused on the results of the meeting between Trump and Erdoğan - it was then that the announcement was made about Türkiye’s ambitions as an aviation power and the multibillion-dollar contract with Boeing.
According to reports, the deal provides for the purchase of both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, including Boeing 737 and 787 Dreamliner models. Most of the planes are expected to be delivered to Turkish Airlines, although other contracts with Turkish carriers are also possible.
It is currently known that the first 100 aircraft will be delivered starting in 2028, while the rest will be supplied under option agreements that may be exercised in the future depending on market conditions and fleet requirements.
This step is part of Türkiye’s strategy to modernize its national aircraft fleet and strengthen its position in the international air transport market. The deal may also affect Türkiye’s relations with other aircraft manufacturers, particularly Airbus.
Why Türkiye needs these planes
- Large-scale fleet expansion. The Turkish airline already has over 430 aircraft, but the goal is to increase the fleet to 800 units by 2033.
- Boosting tourism potential. The new planes will allow for servicing more routes and increasing passenger traffic, strategically important for a country focused on tourism.
- Technical and industrial cooperation. Ankara seeks to ensure that the contract includes partial production or technical maintenance of the aircraft on its territory - a kind of industrial component to the deal.
In addition, on September 25, Türkiye and the US signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy. This took place at the White House after the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
During the White House meeting, President Trump stated that Erdoğan is respected by both Kyiv and Moscow and can bring peace to Ukraine. However, this will only happen if Türkiye stops purchasing Russian energy resources.
