Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says lasting peace can only be achieved with Ukraine's involvement and pledged to continue supporting the peace process, reports CNN Turk.

The Foreign Minister spoke by phone with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. They discussed the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

He also held a call with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. According to the report, that conversation also touched on the talks in Alaska.

The Turkish Minister emphasized that a durable peace is only possible through a process that includes Ukraine. He pointed to the upcoming meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump in Washington as critical in that regard.

Sybiha thanked Türkiye for backing Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying Ankara remains an important platform for negotiations.

Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska

Earlier this week, Trump and Putin held talks in Alaska.

On his way back to Washington, Trump also spoke by phone with Zelenskyy and several European leaders.

Zelenskyy is expected in Washington on August 18 to discuss ways to end the war with Trump. He will be joined by Germany's Chancellor, the Presidents of France and Finland, the Prime Ministers of Britain and Italy, the Head of the European Commission, and the NATO Secretary General.
