Syrskyi's 'successful commander,' we'll work efficiently together, Pentagon official says
The United States will work with the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. He is a successful commander, according to Celeste Wallander, Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs at the Pentagon.
Commenting on the change in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Wallander noted that Ukraine has democratic civilian control over the armed forces, unlike Russia.
She called Syrskyi "an experienced, successful commander."
"The United States respects and will work with whoever the democratically elected government, the leader, President Zelenskyy, chooses to be his commander in chief and we will work effectively with General Syrskyi, we already have," emphasized the Assistant Secretary of Defense.
Syrskii - the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Today, February 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Ukraine's army chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi. The decree was published on the website of the Office of the President.
Syrskyi replaced Zaluzhnyi as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who previously served as the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As reported by Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the head of the Office of the President, the President made this decision for several reasons, including the need to change tactics on the battlefield.
