Support for Ukraine: Romania calls for ambitious actions at NATO Washington Summit
NATO members need to take ambitious actions to support Ukraine at the Alliance summit scheduled for July 9-11 in Washington, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminița Odobescu.
She mentioned that during the Ukraine-NATO Council meeting held today, April 4, she stressed the critical need to maintain support for Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic path.
"The Washington Summit offers a crucial opportunity for ambitious actions in this direction. We remain firmly committed to providing support for Ukraine as long as needed," added Odobescu.
NATO Summit in Washington
Ukraine hopes that allies will adopt decisions to bring Kyiv closer to membership at the NATO summit in Washington.
As noted in a comment to RBC-Ukraine the Chairman of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Yehor Cherniev, the maximum task is to receive an official invitation to join the Alliance, meaning that Ukraine has a reserved seat in NATO.
Cherniev added that the minimum task is a roadmap for Ukraine's accession to NATO. It will likely include steps for membership as well as timelines.
A few days ago, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken mentioned that the NATO summit in Washington would focus on discussing and developing such a roadmap. He did not comment on Ukraine's invitation.
