Sumy hit more than 500 times since start of year, 72 killed - Local administration reports

Since the beginning of the year, Russian forces have carried out 543 strikes on Sumy using various types of weapons, killing 72 people, according to the Sumy City Military Administration.
Since the beginning of 2025, Russian forces have launched 543 attacks on the Sumy community using various types of weapons, four times more than during the entire previous year, according to the Sumy City Military Administration.
In particular, Russian forces targeted the city with:

6 artillery strikes
August was the most devastating month, with 111 attacks recorded in just four weeks.
"Seventy-two Sumy residents were killed, and another 434 were injured. Each of these numbers represents a life, pain, and an irreparable loss for our community," said Hennadii Demianenko, First Deputy Head of the Sumy Military Administration.
According to him, administrative buildings, hospitals, schools, utilities, energy infrastructure, transport, and local businesses remain under constant threat of attack.
Since the start of the year, 303 non-residential buildings have been damaged, 27 completely destroyed.
In total, 494 residential houses were hit, 25 of them leveled, and 245 apartment blocks sustained damage.
Drone attack on Sumy overnight on October 31
On the night of October 31, Russian drones struck Sumy, with at least 10 explosions reported across the city.
A nine-story apartment building and a two-story residential house were hit in different districts.
Two people were injured, a teenage girl and an elderly woman, and both received medical assistance on-site.
The night before, on October 30, Russian forces used a combat drone to strike a gas station in Sumy, injuring several people and damaging multiple vehicles.
