Russian forces launched two ballistic missile strikes on Sumy on April 13. The number of victims may increase, according to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, in a commentary for RBC-Ukraine.

“Russia launched two ballistic missile strikes on Sumy this morning. The arrivals were recorded clearly in the city center. Today is Palm Sunday, a lot of people were on the street, and the church where the consecration is taking place is located nearby. It was at this time that the Russians struck, clearly realizing that they were hitting civilians,” he said.

Klymenko noted that 21 people were killed and 83 wounded.

“This is the situation as of now. Unfortunately, the number of victims may increase,” noted the Interior Minister.

According to him, the emergency services responded instantly - rescuers and police were on the spot from the first minutes of the attack.

“You could see the terrible footage on the Internet. The bodies of the dead in the middle of the street, in public transport, in cars. An extremely cruel attack on civilians,” he added.

Investigators have recorded a war crime by the Russian Federation and are collecting evidence. Psychologists of the State Emergency Service and the police are also working at the scene to provide primary psychological assistance to both the victims and their relatives.

Missile attacks on Sumy

Russian troops attacked Sumy with missiles during an air alert. It was announced in most regions of Ukraine due to the threat of ballistic missiles from Kursk.

Just then, two explosions occurred in Sumy. Almost immediately, the local media wrote about “arrivals”. Later, it turned out that the Russians had hit the center of Sumy at a time when there were many people there.

It was immediately reported that 21 people were killed and 20 wounded. Later, the number of wounded increased to 34, including 5 children, and then to 83.

On March 24, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the center of Sumy. The attack damaged high-rise buildings and a school, and there were many wounded. A total of 108 people were injured.
