Strike on Sumy house kills eight, including children
Russians struck a residential building in Sumy on Sunday, November 17. The enemy attack claimed the lives of 8 people, including a child, according to the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office and a statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the investigation, this evening, using methods of warfare prohibited by international law, the occupiers launched a missile strike on a densely populated residential area in the city of Sumy.
"As a result of the enemy attack, as of 10:00 PM, it is known that 8 people have died, including 1 child, and 10 local residents have been injured," the Prosecutor's Office reported.
At the same time, it is known that at least 10 high-rise buildings and vehicles have been damaged.
"A missile strike on a nine-story building in Sumy. All necessary services are already on the scene, and a rescue operation is underway. My condolences to the families and loved ones. The criminal must face punishment for the murders of innocent people," President Zelenskyy stated.
Updated at 10:42 PM: Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that over 400 people have been evacuated from the building damaged by Russia in Sumy.
Currently, resilience points are being set up. Meanwhile, rescuers, police, and all necessary services are helping people deal with injuries and providing all necessary support. The police are documenting the consequences of the war crime and taking statements from citizens.
"Unfortunately, there are victims: as of now, information has been received about 8 fatalities, including 2 children. Several dozen are injured. Information is being constantly updated. A thorough inspection of all the high-rise buildings damaged by the strike is underway. It is important to check every corner to find all the victims," he added.
Earlier today, the Russian Federation launched a strike on a high-rise building in Sumy.
Moreover, today the Russian Federation carried out the largest shelling in the last three months.
Air defense forces shot down over 140 enemy targets.
