NATO chief on Kursk operation: Ukraine achieved a lot
Ukraine has achieved significant results with its operation in the Kursk region, though the further course of events is difficult to predict, stated NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during his visit to Oslo.
Commenting on the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region, Stoltenberg said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have achieved a lot: they managed to take control of Russian territory, inflict losses on Russian troops, and demonstrate their capability to act.
He also added that the war is unpredictable, making it difficult to forecast what will happen next.
"Only the Ukrainians can make the difficult choices that are needed, such as where to deploy their forces and what type of warfare is appropriate in this situation," Stoltenberg added.
Kursk breakthrough
A month ago, Ukraine caught the Russian army off guard—Ukrainian forces entered the Kursk region. The Russian troops were unable to respond effectively, allowing the Ukrainian defenders to advance deeper into the region.
Ukrainian troops took control of around 100 settlements and achieved significant progress in replenishing the exchange fund.
As explained by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the need for such an operation arose because Ukraine lacked sufficient long-range weapons to destroy Russian forces from a distance.
Zelenskyy also mentioned that the Kursk operation prevented the Russian army from launching its planned offensive on the Sumy region, serving as a preemptive strike.
