Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has expanded his financial claims against his former club PSG, increasing the lawsuit amount more than fourfold. The court is expected to announce a decision in December, reports the Associated Press.
Mbappé demands over €260 million from PSG
In November 2025, Kylian Mbappé significantly increased his claims against PSG. While in 2024 he demanded €55 million from the Parisians, the lawsuit amount has now exceeded €260 million.
The striker's lawyers stated that Mbappé's contract should be recognized as permanent rather than a fixed-term contract. In their view, this entitles him to compensation for wrongful termination, as well as payments for unused bonuses and wages that, according to the player, were not credited.
In October 2024, Mbappé had already won an appeal regarding the initial debt amount, and PSG was required to pay €55 million.
PSG's position: Counterclaim of €440 million
The Parisian club responded with its own multi-million euro lawsuit. PSG's total claims against Mbappé amount to about €440 million. A key argument is the loss of a potential transfer to Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal, which offered €300 million for the striker in July 2023. PSG estimates its losses from this deal at €180 million.
The club also claims that Mbappé concealed his decision to leave the team for almost a year, from July 2022 to June 2023. PSG's statement cites breaches of good faith in negotiations, reputational damage, and failure to comply with contractual terms.
The club emphasized that it tried for over a year to resolve the conflict amicably.
"The club wishes to remind everyone that it made every effort, for over a year, to reach an amicable solution so that all parties could move forward, in line with the spirit of cooperation and trust that should exist between a club and its player," the statement read, cited by RMC Sport.
Timeline of the long-standing conflict
The conflict between Kylian Mbappé and his former club PSG has lasted for more than a year and has a complex chronology of events. In February 2024, the forward announced that he would leave the French club as a free agent, with the intention of continuing his career elsewhere.
In June of the same year, Real Madrid officially signed Mbappé on a contract running until summer 2029, officially completing the striker's transfer from Paris to Spain.
August 2024 marked the first stage of the financial dispute: Mbappé reported that PSG owed him €55 million and filed claims with the French Professional League (LFP) and UEFA. He demanded payment of signing bonuses and wages for the last months of his time at the club.
In September 2024, the LFP ordered PSG to pay Mbappé compensation; however, the player rejected mediation from the league's legal commission, opting instead for direct court proceedings.
October 2024 brought a victory to the striker: the appellate body confirmed his right to the €55 million debt, and PSG was officially obliged to make the payment.
Throughout 2025, the dispute escalated as PSG filed a counterclaim, initially demanding €98 million from Mbappé, which later increased to €440 million.
In June 2025, Mbappé made additional allegations against the club, claiming moral pressure during negotiations, but later withdrew this claim. Thus, the dispute between the player and PSG continues to be reviewed in court, with a decision on financial claims expected in December.
What to expect next
Hearings on Mbappé's financial claims against PSG, totaling over €260 million, are expected to conclude in December. On the same day, PSG's counterclaims will be reviewed.
Despite the legal conflict, Mbappé continues to perform effectively for Real Madrid and the French national team. The striker has already scored 18 goals in the 2025/26 season and recorded a brace against Ukraine, securing France's qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
The court's decision could become one of the largest financial precedents in football in recent years.
