Spanish foreign minister on special tribunal for Russia: 'Fighting impunity'

Spain supports the creation of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. This is a step toward combating impunity, according to Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares on Twitter (X).
"The signing of the agreement between Ukraine and the Council of Europe to establish a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine is great news," the official said.
He added that Spain supports efforts aimed at "ensuring accountability and combating impunity."
Albares emphasized that such a special tribunal and the international registry of damage caused to Ukraine "are crucial for ensuring justice and upholding the rule of international law in Ukraine, Europe, and worldwide."
Special tribunal for Russia
Yesterday, June 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset signed a document establishing a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian leader explained, this effectively launched the process of creating such a tribunal.
This tribunal will, in practice, open the door to bringing charges against top Russian leadership.
