South Korea threatens DPRK with International Court for sending troops to Russia
South Korea condemned North Korea's decision to send its troops to Russia, stating that this would have consequences for the North Koreans, stated South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul, according to Yonhap.
"We firmly condemn the illegal actions of Russia and North Korea and want to make it clear that there will be consequences," said South Korean Foreign Minister.
According to him, North Korea must clearly recognize that it could be held accountable under international criminal law, depending on the specific actions of its troops.
"We cannot conduct business as usual with Russia while it continues its illegal invasion of Ukraine, violating the UN Charter and international law," Cho added.
He believes that North Korea is currently looking to exploit the change in the US administration to carry out a major provocation.
Russia requested soldiers from North Korea
North Korea has sent troops to Russia to prepare for war against Ukraine. The soldiers are undergoing training at four Russian training grounds, as evidenced by videos circulating online.
According to intelligence reports, North Korea may have sent 11,000 soldiers, including two brigades of 6,000 each. Meanwhile, the head of Ukraine's intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, noted that Russia could exchange missiles and troops for technology related to tactical nuclear weapons for North Korea.
At the same time, South Korea estimates that North Korea has sent around 3,000 soldiers to Russia, with that number expected to increase to 10,000 by December.
